I honestly never understood the need for diaper bags. What’s wrong with a well designed regular bag? Do diaper bags offer any actual benefits? My answer is NO. You don’t need a diaper bag, just use a regular bag with compartments.

Most diaper bags look trash. Many of them are too feminine and have top handles or parts that are unnecessary.

• Designed for any gender
  • If you like flowers, go for it, but ideally, it should be a bag that either parent wouldn’t mind using
• Has compartments
  • The bag is not just for wipes and bottles, but also for your phone, laptop, and water bottle etc. You don’t want to have to tip out your bag just to find a wipe!
• Durable and washable
  • There will be spills! The bag needs to be washable.
• Easy to open and close
  • Self explanatory
• Doesn’t look like a diaper bag
  • Bags that aren’t single purpose have better longevity.

A lot of features are “nice to have”, but it’s not always necessary to build that feature into the bag itself, but have a modular approach.

  • You’ll be changing your baby in all sorts of places – the car, airplane toilet, etc. You won’t always have the luxury of space to open up a changing station
  • All you really need are some wipes and the diaper
• Clips on the straps for strollers
  • Nice to have, but you can also have hooks on your stroller
• Waterproof compartments
  • Better off using a waterproof or plastic bag, than dirtying your whole bag
• Insulated compartments
  • Use a thermal bottle, or insulated pack instead. You don’t always need insulation, and it adds bulk to the bag.
