The Best Stroller Wagons of 2024
Stroller wagons are so much fun! The best stroller wagons give kids the freedom to climb in and out safely by themselves, and enjoy the 360 degree views. They are great for any sort of long outdoor trips, including visits to zoos, parks, and even beaches, as they frequently come with all-terrain wheels.
Since it’s a wagon, you can use it for anything, such as unloading groceries from the car, doing large laundry runs, or for carrying a load of party essentials to set up your kid’s birthday party.
Who should use stroller wagons?
They are perfect for families with 2 or more children, who live in suburban areas, or who spend a lot of time walking outdoors, sometimes on rugged terrain. As you can imagine, wagons are larger and heavier than regular strollers, so they are best for families with adequate storage and trunk space.
Stroller wagon vs double tandem stroller?
Wagons are great for children who resist being buckled up in a regular stroller. Tandem stroller seats usually have a 5 point harness, and “cocoon” the child in a slight recline. This is why bumper bars are popular, as kids like to hold themselves to sit up for a better view.
Additionally, as kids can easily get in and out of wagons by themselves, it may feel less babyish for kids who are growing out of their toddler phase.
ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
Wheels and handling
Wagons are made for the outdoors, so its wheels need to stand up to any terrain, and it should be easily maneuverable by an average sized person while fully loaded
Folding and portability
As large as they are, the best stroller wagons should still open and fold with ease. While we shouldn’t expect these large strollers to be ultra compact or lightweight, any benefits in those aspects would be a bonus
Special features
Some stroller wagons may have unique or special features that may make your life much easier, such as a side that lowers to enable children to get into the wagon themselves, or other thoughtful attention to detail
Accessories
Accessories can be used to further customize the stroller to fit your lifestyle or children’s ages. Bonus if they are included as a comprehensive package
Before we dive into the list, here are some data points to keep in mind.
- Weight – The weight of stroller wagons generally range from 26 lbs to 60 lbs with an average of 40 lbs. For comparison, the UPPAbaby Vista V2 full-sized stroller weighs 28.5 lbs without the 2nd seat.
- Folded size – Folded size can vary, as some fold down flat, and some stay upright. General ranges for 2-seater wagons are 29″-45″ in length, 19″-27″ in width, and 7″-38″ in height.
- Seating capacity – Even though stroller wagons are the go-to choice for families with 3 or more children, stroller wagons are practical and useful for families with 2 or fewer children too. This review includes both 2 seater strollers as well as 4 seater ones.
- Price – Prices range from $120 to $900. At the higher end, you have stroller wagons that accommodate 4 children instead of 2. And, as you can imagine, the more expensive the stroller, the more durable and therefore heavier it is, often with more functionality such as footwells, cup and toy holders, leather wrapped handles, etc.
Lastly, in addition to personal experience and extensive research, I’ve only included the best stroller wagons, with ratings of 4.6/5 and above, based on hundreds of reviews on Amazon.
Table could not be displayed.1. BEST OVERALL: Evenflo Pivot Xplore
No products found.
This wagon earned the top spot of best overall, as it provides comprehensive functionality for a great price. After extensive research, I purchased this for a friend who lives in a large city that depended on cars. She is still getting a lot of use out of it 3 years later, and she’s even taken it on multiple road trips.
This stroller was designed by parents, and it shows. One side of the stroller thoughtfully lowers so that small children can easily climb in. It is probably the only stroller wagon to have a dedicated fabric footwell. Let’s get into the details.
Weight: 35 lbs
Folded Size: 27.5” W x 23” L x 37.5” H
Pros
- Side lowers for kid’s easy access
- Change from push mode to pull mode the same handlebar
- Dual UPF sunshades that are also reversible
- Stands when folded
Cons
- Needs to be lifted up curbs
- Footwell cannot be retracted and may be difficult to clean
- Does not fold very flat
Wheels and handling
- Wheels are all-terrain, which means that they also work on sand. However, reviewers note that you need to pull the wagon when on sand rather than push. Even though the wheels arguably could be even wider, this is to be expected for any stroller on soft sand
Folding and portability
- It is easy to open and close, as it is a double fold, similar to most full-sized strollers. It can stand when folded, saving space and your back
- At just under 35 lbs, it is on the lower end in terms of weight. This means that parents won’t have too much trouble lifting it in and out of the trunk
Special features
- Side lowers to allow small children to get in by themselves. This can help save your time and your back
- Single handle doubles as a push or pull handle. On less well designed models, the pull handle is often separate, and needs to be stored under the wagon
Accessories
- The dual sun shades are useful, as most families that use wagons are using it for 2 children, however, reviewers report that the sun shades come out easily, so it may cause some annoyance if your child likes to play with it
- Storage basket can be attached to either end of the wagon, or rotated to be inside the wagon if only one child is seated
- Comes with dual sided snack and drink tray
- Car seat adapter is sold separately. It is on the larger side, and needs to be removed before folding
- Bucket seat option is available separately, if the bottom needs to be used as a bassinet for an infant
There is an upgraded version called the Pivot Xplore Dreamz for $399 with even more functionality, such as bassinet insert and pop out cup holders in the storage basket.
2. BEST VALUE: Baby Trend Expedition 2-in-1
No products found.
This wagon stroller is also Wirecutter’s top pick for 2024. I rank this second to Evenflo’s Pivot Xplore because it’s not as aesthetic, and the lack of dual sunshade would be a problem on long trips at the zoo or for naps on the beach. However, there are many advantages to this stroller, such as the large capacity and range of functionality.
Weight: 40 lbs
Folded Size: 45″L x 26.3″W x 18.5″H
Pros
- Includes parent and child trays, plus 2 additional cup holders outside of the wagon
- Includes Universal Infant Car Seat Adapter
- Easy One-press removable and durable 11″ rear and 8″ front wheels with suspension
- Telescoping handle saves space when folded
Cons
- Only has a single sunshade which doesn’t provide coverage for 2 kids
- Wagon is on the longer and bulkier side
- Canopy cannot be used when car seat is installed
- No footwell as the pull handle is stowed underneath
Wheels and handling
- Durable 11″ rear and 8″ front wheels are equipped with suspension. Reviewers report that this wagon does well on sand
- Large and easy push brake
Folding and portability
- The up and down fold is so easy that reviewers were forgiving about its size and, to an extent, its weight
- Quick-release one-press removable wheels and telescoping slim fold for easy storage and transportation
- The length of the stroller wagon is on the high end, even with a telescoping handle
Special features
- Super large cargo space
- Come with parent caddy to hold phones and drinks. This is super useful as you will most likely have a drink with you on these long walks that warrant a whole wagon. Yes, you could purchase one separately, but isn’t it nice when it’s included?
Accessories
- Comes with a universal baby car seat adapter, which is compatible with Uppababy, Maxi-Cosi, Evenflo, and more brands.
- Includes child tray with 2 cup holders, plus 2 additional cup holders outside of the wagon
- Includes Seat2Mat: Extra cushion that rolls out into a lie down mat
- Flip over basket can be used at the front or back of wagon
For a more affordable version with similar functionality but fewer features, consider the Baby Trend Expedition 2-in-1 for under $200. Due to the lower price point, users seems to get more value out of it, resulting in a slightly higher review rating on Amazon (4.8 vs 4.7 for the Expedition 2-in-1 PLUS)
3. BEST BUDGET OPTION: Radio Flyer All-Terrain
No products found.
This is the lightest and most compact wagon in our lineup – at 26 lbs, it is much lighter than the average of ~40 lbs. Radio Flyer is a company that creates wagons, trikes and scooters and has been trusted by parents for over 125 years. This wagon is simple in design, but offers great value due to its versatility.
Weight: 26 lbs
Folded Size: 7” L x 18.50” W x 32.68.”
Pros
- Very versatile! The long side opens up for use as a bench, which is perfect for places with no seats such as the beach or the park
- Lightweight and folds flat
- Easy to fold – just pull up in the middle
Cons
- Pull handle only. Somewhat difficult to maneuver and go up curbs
- Seatbelts are a simple 2 point harness
- Limited accessories and no additional storage options. Not compatible with car seats or bassinets
Wheels and handling
- The all-terrain wheels are wider than the more basic version of this model, therefore it can easily handle gravel, and compacted sand
- Only one handle at the front for pulling the stroller wagon
Folding and portability
- Folds up very flat, saving trunk space. It is also very light, which makes it easy to lift into the trunk
Special features
- The side that opens to transform the wagon into a bench seat is super useful, as kids can sit down for their snack and easily get up and round around by themselves
Accessories
- You can purchase the same model with an adjustable height rectangular canopy for ~$13 more, or purchase a separate umbrella for ~$30
4. BEST PREMIUM: Veer Cruiser
No products found.
The Veer Cruiser is the Rolls-Royce of wagons. Since wagons are mostly made for the outdoors, the Veer is the ultimate outdoor companion. The Veer Cruiser comes as a 2 seater for $699, and as a 4 seater for $799.
Weight: 33 lbs
Folded Size: 37″ L x 20″ W x 14″ H
Pros
- Excellent handling on rough terrains
- Stylish and functional design
- Lots of accessories for customization
Cons
- Expensive
- Does not come with many accessories, for example, the canopy is additional and costs $69
Wheels and handling
- The rear wheels are large, at 12″ in diameter, they are larger than those of other wagons, which usually have a rear wheel size of 11″. This gives the Veer a smoother drive
- Some users mention that they have difficulty steering the wagon, and that the stroller is better designed for pulling rather than being pushed. However this gets better with practice
Folding and portability
- The Veer’s handle folds down across the length of the wagon, and its folded size is actually quite average amongst wagon strollers
- Despite its rugged all-terrain capabilities, at 33 lbs, the Veer is surprisingly lightweight
Special features
- Single handle can be used to push or pull the wagon
- Can be hosed down for cleaning
- Has an expandable footwell
Accessories
- There are tons of accessories to choose from, such as comfort seat liners, canopies in different colors, storage basket, cargo net, car seat adapters, travel bag, and even nap system (bassinet), and more
5. BEST FOR LARGE FAMILIES: Wonderfold W4
No products found.
The Wonderfold stroller is one of the most popular wagon stroller brands and has strong supporters in various mom groups. It is one of the largest, most robust strollers you can get, so it is also used by our own daycare center to safely take the kids out to the park. The Wonderfold is beast, and comes with all the bells and whistles you can imagine.
Weight: 53 lbs. Wonderfold strollers range from ~40 lbs for 2 seaters to ~60 lbs for 4 seaters
Folded Size: 43″L x 29″W x 18″H
Pros
- Very spacious. It’s like a pack n play on wheels
- Sturdy, with good quality accessories
- Lots of accessories to choose from
Cons
- Large and bulky even when folded
- Expensive
Wheels and handling
- The main handle is covered with neoprene or vegan leather, though you can get upgraded models with leather handles. Additionally, you could use the handle to pull if it works for you, rather than using the pull strap
- Given the size and fully loaded weight of the Wonderfold, it is remarkably easy to maneuver
Folding and portability
- The Wonderfold stands by itself when folded, saving floor space
- The folding itself is not difficult, however, you first need to remove the seats that are clipped onto the edge, as well as the canopy before folding. It requires some practice to get right, but once you’re familiar with it, it is easy enough for one person to manage
Special features
- The side panel opens up as a zipper door to allow children to climb in and out of the Wonderfold wagon themselves
- The carriage basket has mesh pockets all around for ample storage, and is probably the one of deepest out of all of the wagons
Accessories
- There are tons of accessories for the Wonderfold, including all weather mats for the inside, parent cup holders and organizers for the handlebar, cargo net for the outside of the wagon for additional storage, bassinet attachment, footrests, and more!
6. RUNNER-UP 2-SEATER: Jeep Sport All-Terrain
No products found.
Jeep strollers are not actually manufactured by Jeep – their brand is licensed by a company called Delta Children, and Delta Children are one of the largest baby product manufacturers with products (mainly cribs) sold exclusively at Target, Gap, and Walmart.
This Jeep stroller wagon is very comparable to the Evenflo and Baby Trend wagons described above, but it is lighter and folds up flatter. However, this did not make the top choice due to the car seat facing sideways, non-all-terrain wheels, no exterior storage basket. The car seat adapter is not included, and at $50, the Jeep stroller would be more expensive than the Baby Trend if it were not on sale.
Weight: 33 lbs
Folded Size: 20.5”L x 11.8”W x 30.7”H
Pros
- Good quality, with heavy-duty rust-resistant steel frame, yet lightweight
- Lots of storage pockets
- Easy one hand fold
- Push or pull handle
Cons
- Car seat is installed facing the side
- Wheels are not all-terrain
- Only comes with only one sunshade
- No exterior storage basket
- Seats not as padded
Wheels and handling
- The front wheel is smaller than usual, and wheels are not all-terrain. Despite this, users find that the drive is easy and smooth
- One step foot brake
Folding and portability
- It has a one hand fold by pulling on a strap in the middle of the stroller and fold up very flat
- Weighs less than the Baby Trend of Evenflo, same weight as the Veer
Special features
- Compatible with various car seats
- No separate handle bar for pushing and pulling
Accessories
- Includes parent caddy and drink holders
- Car seat adapter sold separately

Weight: 54 lbs
Folded Size: 44″L x 29.5″W x 25″H
Pros
- Aesthetic leather wrapped handles on both sides

Cons
- Does not fold up as slim as the Wonderfold (but comparable in size when assembled)
